Eligibility Criteria for Melbourne Humanitarian Access Scholarship

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

Undergraduate Applicants

  • be a citizen of a country other than Australia and New Zealand and not permanently resident in Australia and either:
  • have applied for or hold a temporary Australian humanitarian visa; or
  • applied for a permanent Australian humanitarian visa
  • have completed Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate in Australia
  • applied for a University of Melbourne undergraduate course through VTAC to start in the year following completion of Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate
  • meet the course prerequisites and achieve at least the minimum ATAR score for the University of Melbourne course
  • have not completed any tertiary studies (with the exception of extension studies completed within the 12th-year program).

Graduate Applicants

  • be a citizen of a country other than Australia and New Zealand and not permanently resident in Australia and either:
  • have applied for or hold a temporary Australian humanitarian visa; or
  • applied for a permanent Australian humanitarian visa
  • applied for postgraduate study at the University of Melbourne through coursework
  • meet the course prerequisites and achieve at least the minimum entry score for the University of Melbourne course

Selection criteria

This scholarship is offered to students with the highest entry scores where there are more candidates than scholarships or more than one candidate with a preference for the same field of study.

Conditions

This scholarship is subject to the terms and conditions for course scholarships. In addition, you must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate course at the University of Melbourne as an international student. If you are granted an Australian permanent visa, the scholarship will cease. Subject to availability, you may be considered for a Commonwealth Support Place (CSP). The scholarship may be deferred to the following year if there are compassionate or compelling circumstances that prevent you from starting the course in the year for which the scholarship was offered.

What are the benefits?

  • A living allowance of $5,000 per year (paid in two installments in April and September) for up to the standard attendance period of your course.
  • Full fee waiver for full-time degree duration.
